My current series is titled “Beauty in Blue” and is a series of mixed media paintings of female figures, both clothed and partially nude, painted with various blue flesh tones and contemporary in nature. These paintings are assorted sizes, and are painted on both canvas, and heavy-duty watercolor paper. I am always enthusiastic with each new piece I paint and love to experiment with new techniques.

I am a fine artist who works in painting and printmaking. I have a passion for creating figurative and abstract paintings using mixed media, oil, pastel, and charcoal. For my mixed media paintings, I will use a combination of mediums depending on the outcome I wish to portray – usually I use at least three or four different mediums that will include acrylic, watercolor, ink, pastel and/or charcoal. However, I have also used collage, artist grade crayons, and water-soluble colored pencils. I use various substrates that include stretched cotton or linen canvas, panels, mixed media paper, and several types of watercolor paper.

After taking my first figure drawing course at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco I realized I was enthusiastic about drawing and painting figures and portraits. When drawing, I use charcoal, graphite, pastels and conte pushing around the mediums with my fingers or my chamois to get my values blended on paper. I love how some paintings get that extra bit of pop using multiple mediums, such as adding ink and gouache or even crayons to pastels, acrylics, and watercolors. I also love to paint with oils using brushes and palette knives. I paint in a loose painterly style as well as blending with brushes and even my fingers.

I am so mesmerized with drawing and painting the human figure – I love all types of figure drawing and painting, whether it be just the hands or feet or the entire body, nude and clothed. Although I have been drawing much of my life, I did not find the courage or passion to pursue art seriously until later in life. My hope going forward is that anyone viewing my work will stop and reflect on each piece and make their own interpretation of what the piece is saying to them.
